Body Language: Lip Licks
Lip Licks are one of the strong potential indicators of stress in dogs. If we're seeing them combined with other stress indicators, such as whale eye, stiff musculature, furtive glances, paw lifting, teeth baring, and growling, we need to be proactive to reduce or eliminate that stress. We have to always have Attunement to our dog, one of the Core Intellects of an animal guardian, so that we can perceive these rapid emotional signs. And so that we can examine who or what is causing our dog to sign this emotion. If we are seeing them rapidly while they are around another dog or a specific person--it's likely an indication they are not feeling comfortable around that dog, or that person. Lip Licks are not always an indication of stress--unlike something like the Play Bow, which is an absolute for play. Dogs can lick their lips while excited, or while anticipating play--or food. Or it may even be momentary confusion or stress--such as having their photo taken. Be attuned, put into context, and be proactive when your dog is asking you to be. #dogtrainer #dogtraining #clickertraining

Body Linguistics: The Play Bow
Body Linguistics: Watch for play bows—and make sure your dog’s ‘play’ is actually fun. Proactively watching for these is how we help ensure dogs tussling is not becoming a fight. This play between Luke and his friend Olive showcases a loose, give and take style with lots of play bows. HOW-TO: PROTECT LIZARDS FROM OUR DOGS
🦎One thing I don't allow in sessions with Los Lukes is any harm to come to any other species, including lizards.🦎 More than a few times I've had to tell students to pull their dogs away from lizards. Here, I discuss some of the incredible ways lizards benefit our own companion dogs. Plus---IT'S FINALLY HERE: I demonstrate on video how I work on an advanced set of exercises I call Looks At, and Looks Away. This is also part of how we work on the vocal and lunging responses a student's dog has towards other stimuli--dogs, cats, squirrels, strangers. This is a very nuanced skill. Though you can work on it on your own, using my demo here as a template, we do get much more fine-tuned than this. That is why it is best to work on this with a Certified Dog Trainer. #dogtrainer #dogtraining #clickertraining

HOW-TO: HOUSETRAIN
Watch the full video for full details. It’s the short version, but it should set you up for success well. 1. Structure ⏳ 2. Puppy Parties 🥳 3. Neutralize + Deter, not just clean. 🫧 And if it wasn't clear, the Bitter Apple Spray goes on the spots you just neutralized with Nature's Miracle. And finally, never punish/shove the nose in. If that worked, you wouldn't still have a problem. And, it's simply not humane; we've evolved past that. (And not just because it doesn't work.) I hope these help you. Share them with anyone you know who needs the help, and message me if you need further fine-tuning from here. Matt Chan, КРА СТР #dogtrainer #dogtraining #clickertraining

Of course, it’s important for new clicker students to learn clicker training before using it, to ensure accuracy. 😎 Watch for full details, plus watch me start training Luke for a leg weave trick. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! @KarenPryorClickerTraining #dogtrainer #dogtraining #clickertraining See less

Behavior Detail: Social Facilitation
If your dog isn’t dog-social, it’s likely causing hardships for you both. It might be hard to go for walks, go to the vet, or even have peace in your own home. Whether your dog is displaying warning signs to other dogs, or is retreating from them, it’s often causing them undue stress to see or be around other dogs. Meet Luke Chan, my Rough Collie. Luke is truly my Co-Instructor. He helps other dogs by diffusing tension with expert communication: body language, vocalisms, expression, and more. He shows them that he means no harm, and he shows them how to play. Luke shows unsocialized dogs how to be more confident, and that helps you both live your best lives. And he loves every minute of it too! Interacting with other dogs is one of his favorite things in the world. Working with us at Los Lukes, we will incorporate playgroups with your unsocialized or reactive/responsive dog~thanks to the help of Luke and other students who are working on the same social skills as you and your dog. Contact us to get started, and check out this video to see Luke in action! #dogtraining #dogtrainer #clickertraining
